It’s going to be great.BADASSLON ANNOUNCEMENTThe Fifth Annual Badasslon will be held Sunday, October 14, 2011 at the Badasslon Grounds, 935 North Main Street, Lanesborough MA 01237. Registration will close at 10 a.m. and racing will start shortly after that time. Entry fee is $20.00.
The Badasslon is a short-course biathlon for mountain bikes and BB guns. The course involves laps of roughly ½ mile, probably less, of gravel road and woods road. We will run heats this year; preliminary heats and the trophy round will be four laps.
This year we plan to use visual targets for each lap. Each contestant will have a balloon to shoot before he or she can start, and on subsequent laps will have to shoot a clay pigeon or disc. The shooting distance is 30 feet. If the contestant misses the target, he or she must take a penalty lap up and down the field. This means first across the line is the winner. Each contestant is responsible for keeping track of his or her own laps, but feel free to bring a pit crew with a lap board.
Any air, spring, or CO2 powered gun is ok. Sidearms are legal too. The thirty foot distance from shooting line to target means you can be competitive with a Daisy Red Ryder, which costs about $35.00. An Airsoft gun may not work with the clay targets. Guns must be carried on the bicycle, so make sure you try out your carrying sling well ahead of time.
Safety is really important – Protective eyewear is strongly recommended. Keep your gun pointed down when not shooting. Practice shooting must be in the same direction as the targets and approved by an organizer. Always keep your gun’s safety on when not actually shooting, and particularly when riding. Crossing the plane of the shooting line means disqualification. Waving your gun around or pointing it at people means disqualification and being asked to leave.
