Someone else thinks more women need to race cyclocross also!
Tom Simpson, BASP organizer extraordinaire is very excited! He penned this in a recent missive:
November 2007 and a New York banker was visiting her family in the City and came out to GG Park for a spin. That was a muddy year so it was a messy spin but a great introduction to the sport. Good enough to ignite a fire and the rest, they say, is history. Evie Stephens has signed on for sunday’s test at Candlestick – the Specialized/Lululemon celebrity has been to:
- The Olympics in London
- World Championships (TTT World Champ)
- UCI level racing in Europe (Fleche Wallonne, Route de France, Giro d’Italia femminile
- UCI level racing in the US (AMGEN, MERCO, Philly, Redlands, Nature Valley)
Sure, sure, you’re all asking, “Did she REALLY get her start in GG Park at a ‘cross race?”
Come out Sunday and ask her yourself
Online Reg, closes tomorrow night – and Sunday will be a great reunion. Evie’s first top flight US Team was WEBCOR with Christine Thorburn and her former team manager Karen Brems. Karen is currently 2nd in the Cup standings behind DFL’s newly unretired star Rachel Lloyd. And with a slow weekend in the USAC National series, more of our NorCal National stars may show up sunday – Emily Kachorek, Caroline Gomez-Villafane. The stars may be aligning for cosmic battle!
I promise, pics or it didn’t happen. Stay tuned! Straight jortz!
